Two weekends ago, Luis had a, let's just say, less than perfect game. It was definitely a tough day for him followed by a really tough week battling a cold (which he had before the game BTW), an eye infection, and some meanie critics.
I was really proud of the way he handled all the pressure he was under, especially considering how terrible he felt. His body was weak and tired. Mentally he was exhausted and uncertain where he stood with the coach. But despite all that, it never got him down.
He knew the Lord was asking him to be faithful, even when things didn't go the way he envisioned. And he was. He trained hard. Really hard. And when he had nothing left to give, he found his strength in the Lord, and trained even more.
Now, under normal circumstances, I would not post the following, but today, I just can't help myself! I'm a proud wife, not just because of how awesome he played yesterday because, to be honest, best performance ever or worst performance of all time, I'm still proud of him.
But this week, I am especially proud because of the way he responded to last week's challenges. And...
- Because he didn't let the words of his critics plant doubt in his mind.
- Because he never once made an excuse and always gave 1,010% despite feeling significantly less than 100%.
- Because he continues to trust the Lord with his career even when things are a little uncertain
- And because well, he's just so dang awesome!
So here I am, braggin' a bit on my man. He'll be a little modest and say I shouldn't do this, but I don't care. He's not looking while I write this next to him and I am just so grateful for the way the Lord blessed him this weekend that I wanna shout it from the blogosphere mountain tops!
This week he was named to the 2nd League's "Eleven of the Week" by Kicker, the German Fußball Bible. Each week they select the best players from that weekends games to form a sort of weekly "All-Star Team." Who's that handsome face in the goal? That's right, my man.
While ratings and chart things are nothing more than man-made tools that in the grand scheme of things are rather meaningless, they're still fun to see.
Especially for a football challenged wife like me. Obviously, I always thinks he plays great, but I'm just a teensy bit biased. So it's always a nice when others acknowledge what I already know to be true, that my guy is a darn good goalie!
And for it to come after such a tough week is just a little extra icing on an already yummy cake.
And, if I may add my own two cents, he's a darn good husband, and an all around darn good guy. Yep, I got me a good one. Player of the week or not, I got me a "keeper"...pun absolutely intended. I know, I'm sorry. It won't happen again.
Update 2.9.11: Here is a clip of the game.
